Teachers entering the profession today are expected to demonstrate proficiency in National Education Technology Standards (NETS). As teachers progress through candidacy programs, they are expected to become fluent in the NETS. Simply getting teachers proficient in the NETS, however, does not guarantee that digital classrooms will be created once the teachers enter the workforce. States and districts must also follow through in funding and supporting classrooms which provide access to digital information and resources. Upgrading classrooms with SMART boards and a teacher-computer is a step in the right direction, but still falls short of appropriate access as stipulated in NETS. For instance NETS 4b states that effective teachers..."provide equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources". Upon review of the NETS, and the 2008 State Tech Grades, where does your teaching/school fall? What are your thoughts? Provide examples when necessary.

During our recent workshop hosted by the National Staff Development Council participants were posed with a series of scenarios regarding change as it relates to 21st century learning, intelligence and "skills". To follow this post will be the questions posed during the workshop along with the feedback participants provided. And, while there were many good and plausible solutions, what we hope will follow will be further "prompts" or challenges which we can address as we move forward with learning in the 21st century. In the coming days, the scenarios and feedback will be posted for your review. Essentially, under the "10 questions" program, anyone can post a video clip to the internet via youtube, myspace, yahoo video or blip tv. The public votes on your question and the top ten are selected and shared with ALL candidates. The candidates respond and post their responses. You can then vote on the candidate's responses. WOW!
